Implant Revision/Replacement
Millions of women have safely undergone breast augmentation surgery and are happy with the results of the procedure. However, it is important that women understand that breast implants will eventually need to be replaced or removed. In the best cases, patients do not need to undergo an additional procedure until the implants have reached their full life span of 10 to 15 years. In a portion of breast augmentation cases, women choose to undergo revision surgery sooner because they want to change the size of their breasts or have developed complications.
Dr. Paul Pin has experience performing breast implant revision, replacement, and removal surgery on patients that desire the most natural looking results possible. Common Reasons for Breast Implant Revision
There are a few different cases in which women undergo breast implant revision surgery. Some women opt to undergo revisional surgery for aesthetic reasons. Other women must have implant revision, replacement, or removal surgery due to health concerns.
Early Breast Implant Revision Surgery
Women who choose to undergo an additional procedure for cosmetic reasons are usually unhappy with the size of the implant. In the majority of these cases, the patient wishes she had gone a bit larger. Other women choose to have a smaller implant placed or want to have the implant removed altogether.
In a small number of patients, the implant is misplaced during the initial breast augmentation surgery. In these cases, patients need to undergo revision surgery to adjust the position of the implant.
Late Breast Implant Revision Surgery
Breast implant revision and replacement may also be required if the implant is more than 10 years old, or if complications arise. If capsular contracture, rippling, rupture, or leakage occurs, your implants need to be replaced or removed.
